Spot treatment, local treatment & Bora-Care — protecting your home without tenting the whole house.
Inside this guide
Treat the problem, not the whole house.
Not every termite problem calls for a full-structure fumigation. When activity is found in a defined area, a targeted approach can stop the damage faster, with less disruption to your life.

Chapter 01
What is a spot treatment?
A spot treatment applies termiticide directly to the exact boards, beams or areas where termites or damage are found — instead of treating the entire structure.
Our inspector pinpoints active colonies, then the product is injected or applied straight into the galleries and wood surfaces where termites live and feed.
How it's done
Four steps.
Inspect
A licensed inspector locates infested wood and maps the activity.
Access
Small holes are drilled into galleries, or surfaces are exposed for treatment.
Treat
Termiticide is injected or sprayed directly into the affected wood.
Seal & report
Holes are sealed and you receive documentation of the work.
Chapter 02
What does “local treatment” mean?
A local treatment targets a specific, limited area of a home — such as an attic, a wall, a garage, or a section of the substructure — rather than the full building.
It's the umbrella term for non-fumigation methods. Spot treatments, wood injections, foam applications and surface sprays like Bora-Care are all forms of local treatment.
- No tenting the house
- No need to leave home overnight
- Food, plants & pets stay put
- Treatment focused where termites actually are
At a glance
Local vs. fumigation
| Local | Fumigation | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Targeted areas | Whole structure |
| Move out? | No | 2–3 days |
| Bag food? | No | Yes |
| Best for | Accessible, defined activity | Widespread or hidden drywood |
| Residual | Yes (e.g. Bora-Care) | None |
Your inspector will recommend the right option based on how far the infestation has spread.

Chapter 03
Meet
Bora-Care
Bora-Care is a borate-based wood treatment made from a naturally occurring mineral salt. It's applied to bare, unfinished wood, where it penetrates deep into the fibers and turns the wood itself into a barrier termites can't feed on.
It kills termites already in the wood, stops new ones from moving in, and also protects against wood-boring beetles and decay fungi.

How Bora-Care works
Inside the grain.
Penetrates
Applied by spray or brush, it soaks deep into raw wood — not just the surface.
Disrupts
When termites eat treated wood, borates disrupt their digestion and they die off.
Lasts
The borate stays in the wood for the life of the structure, as long as it stays protected from water.
Ideal for attics, crawl spaces, garages, new construction and any exposed framing.
Chapter 04
Why it's beneficial
- Low toxicity to people and pets — borates have very low mammalian toxicity
- Odorless, with no tenting and no need to vacate
- Long-lasting protection that doesn't break down over time
- Prevents future infestations, not just current ones
- Also guards against wood decay fungi and beetles
- Often more affordable than whole-structure fumigation
Quick answers
Good to know
Is local treatment right for every home?
No. If activity is widespread or inaccessible, fumigation may be the better choice. An inspection tells us.
Can Bora-Care go on painted wood?
It needs bare, unsealed wood to absorb properly.
How long does it take?
Most local treatments are completed in a single visit.
Will I need to leave?
Typically not — you can stay home during and after treatment.
